iflix Gets Film Giant MGM On Board As Strategic Investor

iFlix, South East Asia’s very own Netflix is expanding its content portfolio by getting investors that bring value to its proposition. In its latest announcement, the company part of Malaysia’s Catcha Group and Evolution Media Capital has welcomed Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) as not only an investor but also to play a deeper role in their entertainment subscription service.

The partnership also includes the appointment of MGM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Gary Barber, to iflix’s Advisory Board and the companies’ extensive multi-year content licensing deals. Through the agreement MGM contributes premium in-demand television and film content that comprises a portion of the 20,000 movies and television episodes that make up iflix’s extraordinary library of top entertainment content.

iflix Group CEO, Mark Britt said: “We are thrilled to have a studio partner and strategic investor of MGM’s caliber join the iflix family. MGM’s substantial weight, influence and resources in the industry will be a critical advantage for us in the development and execution of our strategy as we look to solidify our leadership in the region and expand into new markets.“

MGM producers of the upcoming Bond movie Spectre, is one of the oldest and largest studios in the movie making industry, with a huge library of classics like Rocky and popular serials like Vikings and Fargo. iflix would greatly benefit from this alliance bringing such diverse content to the Asian markets it were to gain a strong foothold in this region before other streaming services eye this market.

Currently offered on the iflix channel include shows from Hollywood, Hong Kong, Seoul, Shanghai, Tokyo and Thailand with 24 hour service seven days a week.
