I ‘Heart’ Twitter

Twitter is making some major overhaul this week. It will replace ‘favourites,’ portrayed as stars with heart icon instead and it’ll be called ‘likes.’ We’re not sure how Twitter’s loyal fans are going to feel about this since stars and favs have been a trademark when it comes to status updates on Facebook. We mean, Twitter. Did we say Facebook? Or was it Instagram? Hmm…

Anyway, according to Twitter’s Product Manager, Akarshan Kumar, stars can be confusing for new users because “you might like a lot of things but not everything can be your favourite.” We don’t know what kind of ‘new’ users Twitter is trying to appeal to but we’re guessing these are highly anal ones that don’t think ‘favourites’ means exactly the same thing as ‘likes’ when it comes to the social media. But, hey, we might be wrong.

Twitter has been a tad desperate to get more users come onboard its social networking site. It has recently expanded the limit for people you can follow as well as adding features like curated Moments. Supposedly, the new heart icon “resonates across language, cultures and time zones” and Twitter found in tests conducted since June that people love it. They probably put a heart on it too.

We don’t know if this is going to haul up a bucketful of new users for Twitter but we’re definitely still not seeing that 140-characters limit being lifted anytime soon.
