Hong Leong Bank Hosting Hackathon To Find New Hires

Can You Hack It?

Hong Leong Bank (HLB) is hosting a 24 hour hackacthon for the second time after debuting it in 2018. The event will be held on the 27th and 28th of April at Menara Hong Leong in Damansara City. The event is by HLB is a part of their digital innovation push. The rewards are RM 15,000 in cash, potential employment opportunity at Malaysia’s Best Digital Bank and also support and funding for promising projects.

Domenic Fuda, Group Managing Director and CEO of HLB had this to say about the project:

“We were very impressed with the energy and out-of-the-box creative thinking demonstrated by
last Hackathon’s participants, especially given the fact that they only had a day to complete the
challenge and that’s the reason Can You Hack It is now one of the platforms we use for hiring.
In addition, we are also collaborating with some of the teams to commercialize their
ideas.

The event is designed for participants to propose their ideas and solve problem statements that are provided by the bank. This will help find a better digital banking experience or new financial services, products, coding and validating them. Then a working prototype will be presented to a panel of HLB’s key executives and others in the industry and VC scene.

Last year’s hackathon

A participant last year, Aaron Chuah from Inti International College Subang joined HLB as an intern. He had this to say about the experience:

“The highlight of my experience at the hackathon was watching the top 10 group presentations as I learned
that applications not only need to be functional, but must also have creative features to increase
usage. I’m excited at the chance of being hired as a full-time employee at the Bank after I
graduate because Hong Leong Bank is one of the more technologically savvy banks in
Malaysia.”
