It looks like Malaysians are going to have one less platform to order food from as Honestbee has announced that it will “temporarily suspend” both it’s food and grocery delivery services in the country starting July 22nd onward.  3 Month’s ago, TechCrunch reported that Honestbee is running out of money and are trying to sell the company, which is in stark contrast to how the company are portraying themselves to be here in Malaysia.

I suppose their money problems were bound to float to the top eventually. In spite of the fact that TechCrunch reported that they’re letting employees go, the suspension of services will not have an effect on full time employees of Honestbee Malaysia. Riders and shopper Bees however are not as lucky, as those currently working with Honestbee will have the option to pursue other career paths when the opportunity arises, according to Honestbee. They did add that they do have the option to rejoin the course of their business should they restore operations though.

“After a strategic review of our company’s businesses, our headquarters in Singapore has made a firm decision to temporarily suspend our operations in Malaysia. This is to ensure we can meet our financial commitments to our merchants, partners and suppliers as we carefully review the future of our operations,”

For those of you who have purchased plans under the Honestbee subscription plan, fret not! The company has said that it will contact the lot of you shortly to offer refunds.

It’s rather sad to see a company such as Honestbee struggle. They first entered Malaysia in 2017 and were focused solely on grocery deliveries in the Klang Valley. Hopefully new CEO Brian Koo can steer the ship in the right direction and ensure that this temporary suspension of services remains temporary.
