Great Watch, Better Health And Even Better Price; The Mi Watch Lite Review

January 8, 2021

We’re a bit late on this but hey, better late than never. So I got the opportunity to review the new Mi Watch Lite and I was very satisfied that I wish I could keep it. The Mi Watch Lite is the new addition to the Mi family and like the name says, it’s basically the lighter version of the Mi Watch.

Both watches are actually very, very affordable, you won’t need to spend a fortune for a fully functioning smartwatch. However, if you are on a tight budget, the Mi Watch Lite is definitely the right choice for you. But you’re not here to know about the price but how good the watch is so I’m here to tell you my experience with the Mi Watch Lite.

Design and Display

The design of the Mi Watch Lite may not be original with its square-shaped 1.4″ LCD display but you’ll still have smooth navigations scrolling and swiping through the apps and features on the watch. I personally prefer the square shape as it looks more spacious and more organised.

The Mi Watch Lite is available in 5 colours; Pink, Ivory, Black, Navy Blue and Olive and the one we got is Black which goes with anything you wear. In terms of Display theme, you have the choice to choose between over 120 themed watch faces. It is completely customisable so you can make your watch display as however you want.

Battery Life

According to the Mi.com website, the Mi Watch Lite can last up to 9 days on normal use and that one is proven as I’ve only charged this watch on the last day of the week and it lasted for the whole of the following week.

It takes the watch 2 hours to be fully charged and you may think that’s a long time but for it to last for 9 days, that’s not bad at all so if you don’t like waiting, charge it overnight, wear it the next morning and you’re good to go for the rest of the week.

Apps and Features

I didn’t manage to test every app and feature on the Mi Watch Lite unfortunately but here are the things I did manage to test out and was satisfied with the results. First, let’s talk about the app that you’ll need to download on your phone in order to activate the Mi Watch Lite.

The Xiaomi Wear app is available on the Google PlayStore and it connects and syncs with the watch smoothly. For iOS users, you’ll need to download the Xiaomi Wear Lite app on the App Store.

  • Mobile App

By syncing the watch and the mobile app, you’ll be able to keep track of anything you use your watch for like calorie burn, steps you took, heart monitor and sleep monitor. You can check the results on the watch itself as well but the mobile app will give you a more in-depth look at your health.

  • Heart Monitor and Breathing Guide

The features on the Mi Watch Lite that has helped me the most were the heart monitor and breathing guide. Equipped with a PPG sensor, the watch can detect your heart rate 24 hours a day and notify you when your heart rate goes above normal levels which was very good in my case. It can also save your resting heart rate data for 30 days to help monitor long-term heart rate changes.

The breathing guide performs guided breathing exercises for 1 to 5 minutes at a set rhythm to alleviate stress anytime, anywhere.

As someone with an anxiety disorder, these 2 features really helped me manage my mental health better as I became more aware of my heart rate with the heart monitor and the breathing guide helped calm me down whenever I’m feeling anxious or experiencing an anxiety attack.

  • Find My Phone

The Find My Phone feature was also very helpful. Once you sync the watch with your phone, tap on the Find My Phone icon and your phone will give off a very loud alarm or tone until you’re able to locate it. Once you found your phone, simply tap on the icon again on the watch to turn off the alarm/tone.

  • Daily Health Data

The only exercise I do is dancing so though I have never had any interest in finding out how many calories I burned or steps I took, it’s actually good to know that the Mi Watch Lite can keep track of all that.

To know if it’s accurate, I compared it with a game that requires me to walk around and catch some “magical creatures” inside a “magical ball” and the results for the steps I took are the same in the game as it is on the watch.

Other than the health and fitness features, the Mi Watch Lite is equipped with your useful everyday features as well like temperature, weather updates, notifications, alarm, stopwatch and flashlight.

Final Thoughts

It was hard to say goodbye to the Mi Watch Lite after 2 weeks of using it. I haven’t worn a watch since I was 12 and I was never a fan of smartwatches but the Mi Watch Lite definitely changed my mind and made me consider to purchase one of my own.

The Mi Watch Lite shows that you don’t need to overspend for a good quality smartwatch. With all its amazing features and functions, the Mi Watch Lite only comes at RM 249.00. That’s a really great price and from experience, you won’t be disappointed.
