The Gran Turismo franchise has been around for almost 20 years. Sony Interactive Entertainment Singapore Branch (SIES) announces that the global sell-through for the racing simulator has passed 80.4 million units. This is a significant milestone, considering the series’ first debut in 1997.
“It’s hard to imagine that 80.4 million copies of Gran Turismo have been played during the 20-year history of the franchise,” says Kazunori Yamauchi, President of Polyphony Digital Inc.
“I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation for the community, as well as our close friends and supporters within the automotive industry.” Yamauchi adds that the company would like to continue bringing the highest level of racing in the years to come.
The latest instalment of the franchise, Gran Turismo Sport, is hosting the FIA Gran Turismo Championships 2018. In partnership with Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, racers compete to become the ultimate champion. The company will announce details of the upcoming “Online Season” at a later date.
