Google is set to release a new home-based smart device, if the leaked photos are to be believed . Tentatively called Google Home Hub, the device will join the original Google Home, Google Home Max and Google Home Mini in delivering the Google Assistant experience to the living room.

The leaked photo shows a 7-inch display attached to a large speaker. The OS on the device is expected to be a large-screen version of Google Assistant, but other than that it will have limited functionalities. So no Android services on the Google Home Hub.

Of course saying that, the Google Assistant environment is robust thanks to its tie-in with the Google ecosystem. So expect functions such as Maps, News and Search intergrated tightly in the experience. Like the Google Home, we can expect the Google Home Hub to be voice-controlled, but now it will have the 7-inch touch panel as an additional control method for interaction with Google Assistant.

The image shows a large speaker mated to the back of the display. While unknown for now, we can expect the speaker to be as big as the Home Max. This will be great as Spotify and Google Music should be included in the list of supported services, like the Google Home. The Home Hub will have both 2.4Ghz and 5GHz WiFi, Bluetooth and multitude of sensors including light and colour to deliver that special Google Assistant experience to the consumers.

No dates for the announcement have been leaked, but it should be not too far off. We are expected to have the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL launch around the corner – we may see the device pop up during that event.
