Fans can breathe a sigh of relieve..
Remember when Marvel decided they wanted a bigger slice of the Spiderman cake and pretty much demanded (ok fine we don’t know if they “demanded”, but we do know they felt entitled to) a bigger cut of the Spiderman profits? Well, as we all know, that didn’t exactly turn out very well. Sony pulled the plug on the whole thing and the MCU were left without the one character they were building up to be the replacement for Ironman.
It was all rather sad, not just for Marvel but also for the fans. Marvel and Tom Holland have done a great job with Spiderman’s seamless transition into the avengers and the Infinity War series and while I personally didn’t agree with the direction they had planned for the character, the masses sure did.
Thankfully, the two powerhouses have managed to strike a new deal to bring spidey back to the MCU.

No details yet on the exact numbers behind the new deal but at this point, who cares?! Fans of the franchise will take the good news, no questions asked. Me personally? Well, the thought of Sony handling the spider-verse on it’s own is an interesting one.
Ever since Disney acquired Marvel, I feel like the films have had a sort of family friendly priority to them, which is fine and all, but it’s just not for me. At the same time however, you have Sony producing a Venom movie where he pretty much decapitates for fun but not once do you see a splash of blood, so ¯\
The next Spidey flick — and the third in Sony’s Homecoming trilogy — is set to be released on July 16th, 2021.
