PC.com: What were the challenges you faced as a disruptive business and how did you overcome it?

Ivan Teh: Competing against the largest and most reputable players in the industry (most of them being western mega-vendors) was no easy feat, when one considers that at the beginning, Fusionex possessed no track record, no brand presence whatsoever, with zero funding except that of our personal savings. Looking back, I am lucky to have had the support of my family and friends during that challenging time. It is with their support and encouragement coupled with the fantastic never-say-die attitude of the people I work with, the Fantastic Fusionex colleagues, some of whom have been with Fusionex from day one until now, that Fusionex is where it is today.

PC.com: How did the MSC status help your business?

Ivan Teh: It goes without saying that the MSC status helped provide us with a key financial boost as it accorded tax exemptions and pioneer status as well as grants to us. More than that, the MSC status also opens doors for us to reach out to potential clients in the market. It became a platform where we could get more brand awareness and expand our partnership network, not just locally but internationally as well. At Fusionex, we are blessed to enjoy a strong and healthy relationship with MDeC; we would like to thank them for the support and friendship extended to us to this day and we hope that this will continue.

PC.com: Being in the field of technology that is constantly evolving, how do you keep abreast with the developments in the field and stay ahead?

Ivan Teh: That’s the challenge, but at the same time, the exciting thing about technology, it’s constantly evolving at a very fast pace. We cannot sit down and say: “That’s it. We have done our very best and now let’s just relax.”

The IT industry does not afford us with such luxury. We need to constantly evolve together with the latest technology. What is disruptive today may not even be disruptive next year. Thankfully, the Fusionex Team gets this. We relish the challenge and we overcome obstacles and solve tricky situations as a team. Data is and remains our focus. We dissect and analyse data with passion and can never get enough of it.

We invest heavily in R&D to ensure that our solutions are up-to-date and in line with the growth in technological advancement. The beautiful thing about the evolvement of technology is that it presents plenty of opportunities to innovate and create solutions to help our clients and at the same time, contribute to the betterment of the IT ecosystem as a whole.

PC.com: What are some of the plans moving forward Fusionex?

Ivan Teh: This is a very important year for Fusionex. We have a lot of things planned and to look forward to. We are looking towards launching an enhanced version of our Big Data Analytics Solution, GIANT v2 this year and will be looking towards continuously expanding our growing partnership network. We also look towards solidifying our position and being recognised as the region’s number 1 Big Data Analytics player.

PC.com: What advice would you give aspiring technopreneurs who would like to follow in your footsteps?

Ivan Teh: Do not give up. Always believe in yourself, you will not be able to sell your idea if you doubt yourself. Be your biggest supporter also your harshest critic. Learn from mistakes and learn from rejection. Technology is an exciting space, there is always room for innovation and creation. Most of all, enjoy the journey. Finally, I would like to wish all budding technopreneurs the best of luck in their journey
