Facebook is embracing gaming as a whole now. I remember the times when I used to get on Facebook JUST to play Mafia Wars and Farmville. It was utter ridiculousness how often I’d get on, and how serious I was about the games. So in a way, Facebook always had their toes in the gaming community. But now, they’re diving in headfirst.

Facebook is looking to incorporate a dedicated Facebook Gaming Tab. It will be situated in the main navigation bar and will be a central hub for people to discover, play, watch and share gaming content. The content will not be limited to games that are available on Facebook, but gaming as a whole.

This means, streams, PC and console gaming news, Game groups, and Facebook Instant Games. If you were unaware, Instant Games on Facebook can find and play games in the news feed or Messenger, on both desktop and on their mobile devices. The games are like UNO, Angry Birds, Words with Friends, etc. Basically anything that has anything related to gaming, will be included in the Facebook Gaming Tab.

On when the feature will be available, Facebook Gaming’s Vice President Vijaye Raji said in a blog post;

“We’ll start rolling out the Facebook Gaming tab to a small subset of the more than 700 million people who enjoy gaming on Facebook each month. Over time, we’ll expand access to more gaming enthusiasts. People who don’t see the tab in their main navigation bar can find it by going to the Bookmarks menu.”

Seeing games and gaming culture is always a good sign. It’s been a stigma for almost too long and still is to an extent. But with wide spread integration across different platforms and communities, maybe we’ll just chill and just play games together.
