Priced to Sell
Wiko is well-known for producing smartphones that are affordably priced. Even its most expensive device is within the sub-RM1,000 price point. The Wiko Sunny3 Plus is one from the other end of the spectrum. Overall, the model is a minor upgrade of the Sunny2 Plus. Wiko has upgraded the operating system, battery capacity, as well as display size and aspect ratio. It does, however, make for a great budget-friendly smartphone, priced at RM249.
The Sunny3 Plus feels very sturdy in hand and has a certain weight to it. While the body is predominantly plastic, it looks and feels very polished. It is far from cheap-looking – a feat for entry-level devices. At first glance, it looks like the Sunny3 Plus has a unibody. It has a removable backing, which gives you access to the removable battery, as well as the microSD and SIM card trays. It is a pain to open though. Then again, it just means it has a high chance of staying secure even if you dropped your phone.
It features a 5.45-inch display that sports a new 18:9 aspect ratio format, which makes the Sunny3 Plus a widescreen smartphone. This seems to be a trend for Wiko devices – several new models are sporting widescreen aspect ratios. I found this display size to be more comfortable than the Wiko View2 Plus, as the aspect ratio makes more sense for my own use. Of course the lack of a notch is also appreciated on my end.
The Everyday Device
Specs-wise, the Sunny3 Plus won’t be able to compete with your mid-range smartphones. But it does the job for everyday tasks like emailing, chatting and web surfing. The Sunny3 Plus comes with 8GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 64GB via microSD. It only has 1GB of RAM as well. Surprisingly, playing mobile games on the Sunny3 Plus wasn’t as painful as I thought it was going to be. That said, most side scrollers and otome games aren’t exactly graphics or resource heavy.
Not for the Camera
Taking into consideration of its price, the Sunny3 Plus isn’t a device you’d use for spectacular photography. It comes with a 5-megapixels rear camera and 2-megapixels front camera. In bright daylight, the phone’s camera can take decent pictures. Don’t expect the bells and whistles like autofocus and lighting adjustment. Backlit or low-light photography is definitely out of the question.
