FromSoftware’s Deracine Launch Trailer Showcases a World of Stopped Time in PSVR

From the creators of Dark Souls and Bloodborne, comes a very different kind of game from what we’re used to. Deracine is an upcoming story adventure game by From Software, Hidetaka Miyazaki, and SIE Japan Studio for PlayStation VR.

Set in a secluded boarding school, you play as an invisible faerie that can move about in frozen time. As you explore this mysterious place, you’ll collect various bits of information and interact with the academy’s inhabitants. The story is a new take on classic adventure games and utilises PS VR’s technology to bring about an immersive experience.

To celebrate the debut of Deracine, Playstation Blog conducted an interview with the director Miyazaki to discuss his thoughts on developing the game. According to Miyazaki, he is quite fond of this title compared to his other ones.

“For me personally and for FromSoftware, this was a title rife with experimentation and novel ideas. The reasons for this are varied: the game being on PS VR, the genre being something we have never worked with before, the small scope of the project which gave a lot of autonomy to the development staff, and the focus on theme and narrative over game systems. As a result, we struggled a lot, and we learned a lot. I think that’s where this strange affection was born.”

Miyazaki also adds that this title was an opportunity for him to explore the theme of existence versus non-existence in a way that’s only possible in virtual reality. As we can already see in the trailer, there is a certain level of intimacy involved when interacting with the characters through VR.

Deracine will launch today on 6th November 2018 for PlayStation VR.
