In a series of Instagram stories, the former minister shed light on a past parliamentary debate where he tabled the Smoking Control Bill & CEG.

In a video shared on his Instagram story, the former minister highlighted a particular moment during the parliamentary debate when a minister questioned the correlation between smoking and cancer. The former minister expressed disbelief in his caption, stating, “Can you imagine that?”

Continuing his narrative, the former minister shared a subsequent video where he stood up to address and disprove the argument presented by the minister. He recounted the moment by saying, “When I stood up to demolish his argument and affirm the science that there is a link between smoking and cancer, and challenged anyone to suggest the contrary, there was pin-drop silence.”

To reinforce the unequivocal link between smoking and cancer, the former minister quoted information from the Centers for Disease Control in the USA. The quote highlighted that cigarette smoking can cause cancer in various parts of the body, including the mouth, throat, esophagus, stomach, colon, rectum, liver, pancreas, voice box, lung, trachea, bronchus, kidney, renal pelvis, urinary bladder, and cervix, as well as causing acute myeloid leukemia.
