
Strict regulation are in place when it comes to recording of information for Sim Cards, telco’s and retail outlets selling prepaid cards are required to document the users details of these cards. Malaysia Communication and Multimedia Commission has enforced the regulation and been strongly penalising offenders mostly telco’s for violating the guideline.
In a recent case, MCMC for the first time took to task slamming RM72000 fine on 2 individuals, a shop keeper and his assistant for the offense of false registration of sim card information verifying last user data on the numbers.
Accused Chee Han Hing, 38 admitted to 18 offences which carries a fine of RM3000 per offence. Meanwhile his assistant Tan Shi Wei, 26 was also charged under the similar offense, however he was fined RM1o00 per offence. Both were convicted under the Computer Crime Act 1997 which carries a fine of not more than RM100,000 or 7 years jail term or both.
