Remember the viral Facebook video about Malaysia’s stellar response to the Covid-19 pandemic? You know, the one that’s kinda Nas Daily-esque where some white dude talks about how Malaysia’s response to the pandemic is not getting the attention it deserves before he points out all the steps we’ve taken to become one of the leading countries in the world in terms of Covid-19 recoveries?

Well it turns out that Facebook is not buying it. According to Dustin Pfundhelle, the content creator who published the video, Facebook has now blocked the video’s organic reach and ads on the page, and all without an explanation. According to Facebook, the video promotes “false, misleading and deceptive claims”.

Bewildered by Facebook’s action, Pfundheller published a four-minute video on the 6th of July questioning Facebook’s decision whilst explaining why it was uncalled for. In the video, he explains that not only did he use accurate facts but also sourced his information properly. He even went as far as to have 30 YouTubers fact check and review the video.

“I also had 30 YouTubers do fact checks on it and review the video – and the only thing I found out from their reviews was that there were (more) things I should have included that Malaysia had done – like giving free Internet.

“This is frustrating, because a country like Malaysia often gets ignored. When you look at countries that did amazing (in) fighting Covid-19, it’s all about Western countries or maybe Taiwan, but a country like Malaysia is completely off the map, ” he said.

Given that he’s been unable to clarify the matter with Facebook, Pfundheller makes the case that perhaps the social media platform is biased against certain content. We’ve reached out to Facebook Malaysia and they’ve got no comment on the matter for now.
