If you’re like me, you just want a purely clean and simple messaging app without games or stories. It appears as though Facebook agrees; at the F8 Conference, they state they will be redesigning Messenger, promising a simpler, cleaner UX. This comes after years of adding random stuff like games, SMS sync, and stories.
Mark Zuckerberg says, “When you’re messaging, you really want a simple and fast experience. We’re taking this moment to completely redesign Messenger to focus on these ideas.”
David Marcus, Vice President of Messenger, adds that they will start rolling out the new Messenger very soon. Facebook has been working on redesigning Messenger since the start of this year it seems.
It’s going to have a dark mode, which I personally appreciate in the growing world of OLED smartphones; I already use night modes for various other apps such as Twitter and Reddit. The bottom navigation bar has been revamped, with just three central tabs purely for communication. You can still use the camera and video chat functions through icons on the upper right of Messenger.
The new look Messenger definitely looks a lot sleeker and clean. Maybe with these changes, Messenger can finally be a chat app again.
