Facebook Messenger Now Has Group Video Chat Feature!

Group Video Chat has, according to Facebook, been the most requested feature from its users. To nobody’s surprise, they’ve gone and made that a reality with the latest version, which should be rolling out worldwide today. The feature will be available on Android and iOS devices as well as the desktop version of Messenger, but they were mum on whether the feature would be present to those using web browsers.

On iOS only, 3D masks are available. They’re a lot like Snapchat’s Lenses, so this isn’t an entirely new thing we’re seeing.

What’s very impressive is the capability of Group Video Chat on Messenger. Up to 6 people can participate through video, with up to 50 friends joining in via voice. When more than 6 people are on the call, only the dominant speaker is shown to all participants.

To use this new feature, get the latest version of Messenger, jump into an existing group conversation (or create a new one) then tap on the video icon on the upper right corner of the screen.

According to Facebook, more than 245 million people make video calls on its Messenger app monthly. With Christmas and the New Year just around the corner, we’re sure this feature will be a huge hit.
