Facebook recently announced it launched a desktop version of Messenger for both macOS and Windows.

Having a desktop version for the app certainly makes things a little bit easier. Not only that, but it also does have a slightly different layout than on Facebook. It’s more akin to its website counterpart.

Facebook says in a post that it saw a 100% increase in people using Messenger on their desktops for video and audio calling.

Now, with its desktop version, Facebook says people will be using “the best of Messenger”, which includes unlimited and free group video calls.

Facebook’s Messenger has been one of those apps that was bound to have its own standalone version. The company was reportedly working on it as early as 2016, though an announcement for the app was made last year.

Messenger comes with dark mode, too, though there’s a quite a bit of emphasis from Facebook’s post about it being on a “bigger screen”. Funny that they can push out a dark mode for Messenger, but still haven’t come up with one for WhatsApp on desktop.

The timing couldn’t be better, though, as now those working from home could opt to use Messenger instead of Zoom for videoconferencing calls.

Though of course, there are still many other alternatives, too. Messenger simply added itself to the list to make things a little easier, I guess.
