ESL One Genting 2018 recently released its two final direct invites to the upcoming LAN in Genting Highlands a little over a month from now. First is Vici Gaming, a top-tier team hailing from China, and the final invite goes to none other than Malaysia’s very own Fnatic.
As it is a Malaysian event, it comes as no surprise that there would be two Malaysian teams getting directly invited. What is odd is that ESL One Genting did mention there would be NINE invited teams. Of course, after inviting both Vici Gaming and Fnatic, they have gone on to post on their Facebook page, stating that Fnatic will be the final invite for the tournament.
As it stands, here are the top eight teams that will be attending ESL One Genting 2018.
For all we know, maybe ESL One has something up their sleeves with a surprise final invite. Another oddity pertaining the invites is why does Fnatic deserve an invite. If it’s based solely on it being a regional affair, then that’s all fine and dandy. However, Fnatic have not been performing up to the expectations as of late. Of course, Fnatic is one of the stronger SEA teams and especially so after the inclusion of Abed “Abed” Yusop.
Whatever the case may be, it looks like we will have to wait and see on what ESL One has to offer come 26 January.
