Ericsson predicts that the fast emerging technologies of 5G, Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud will drive digital disruption in every industry in Malaysia in 2016. With a government that actively pushes policies that are in line with the adoption of new technologies and the usage of ICT towards building a Smart Nation, Malaysia is well placed to benefit from the transformational opportunities brought by 5G, IoT and Cloud.

“Ericsson together with our partners and customers, is on a transformation journey which will see industries and even whole societies benefiting from mobility, broadband and cloud,” says Todd Ashton, Head of Ericsson Malaysia &Sri Lanka.

“Digital disruption will come to every industry in 2016 especially here in Malaysia where society is rapidly adopting ICT. Smartphone subscription is expected to grow more than 1.5 times from now until 2020 across Malaysia. We are already working closely with various industries to create a truly Networked Society here in Malaysia through collaborations with our local 5G and IoT partners with whom we are working on building a 5G roadmap and connecting industries such as agriculture”.

Ashton went on to share that major announcements were made at the recent Mobile World Congress towards ensuring a more global, innovative and effective portfolio of solutions, including Ericsson’s agreements with 20 major operators around the world to work together on 5Gl a collaboration with AT&T to bring the operator’s Digital Life solution , which uses IoT technology to transform home security and automation, to service providers in Malaysia; and its plans to form a global business, technology and services alliance with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to accelerate cloud transformation for telecoms service providers.
