ECS Secures Distribution Rights For Apple Watch

Malaysia’s premier ICT distributor ECS has secured the rights to distribute the much anticipated Apple Watch via its subsidiary ECS Astar. They will also distribute other smartwatches which include Motorola Moto 360 and Asus ZenWatch. According to the company they have over 5000 resellers nationwide consisting of mobile retailers, consumer electronic chain stores, e-commerce sites and its newly established watch channel to make these devices available.

CEO Soong Jan Hsung has this to say “Our foray into the new wearables segment cements ECS as the leading ICT distributor that is constantly in the forefront by bringing trend-setting technologies to the market.The prospects of this segment are certainly exciting, as we will be able to provide our principals market penetration as quickly as Malaysians are receptive to these new devices. We are very optimistic that this wearables segment has significant growth potential and will contribute positively to the Group’s performance from this financial year onwards.”

The coup by ECS will bode well for the company as the growth for wearables is set to grow from 80 million units to 111 million in 2016 according to IDC, it also predicted by 2019 it will surge to 215 million units on a compounded annual growth rate of 28%.

ECS is a public listed firm in the country and distributes a comprehensive range of ICT products comprising notebooks, personal computers, smartphones, tablets, printers, software, network and communication infrastructure, servers, and enterprise software from more than 30 leading principals.
