Drone Race Asia (DRA), a leading First Person View (FPV) drone racing organization based in Kuala Lumpur, has announced the “Drone Race Asia (DRA) International FPV Championship” set to take place at Plaza Low Yat, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, from December 1 to 3, 2023.
DRA, in collaboration with Magic Beans Alchemy Sdn Bhd and the DRA Drone Racing Club, is spearheading this three-day event to introduce Malaysians to the thrilling world of drone racing. With Malaysia leading the way, DRA plans to initiate a global series of drone racing events, showcasing the untapped potential of the drone industry in the country.
The competition will feature two categories – DRA Rookie and DRA Captain, accommodating both newcomers and seasoned professionals. The prize pool for the DRA Captain category reaches up to USD 5,000.
What sets this event apart is the introduction of the world’s first indoor vertical drone race, featuring a towering height of 20 meters. Pilots will navigate through a challenging course, emphasizing speed and precision in a more confined space, testing their mettle like never before.
Safety remains a top priority, ensuring both the public and racers within the competition arena are secure. Director of Magic Beans Alchemy Sdn Bhd, YY Choy, expressed the organizers’ commitment to propelling drone racing into the mainstream, making it accessible to a wider Malaysian audience.
President of DRA Drone Racing Club, Johnson Yap, shared his excitement about the immersive experience of piloting a drone in first-person view, calling it unparalleled. He emphasized that drone racing seamlessly combines physical and virtual reality into a captivating experience.
YY highlighted the robust growth of the global racing drone market, projecting its value to reach USD 5 billion by 2032. The event signifies the beginning of an annual tradition for DRA in Malaysia, with plans for a series of races across various Asian countries in the years to come.
All 30 seats in the competition have been claimed by local and international racers, including renowned names in the drone racing community.
