Dota 2’s new Ranking System

After introducing its new ranking system, Valve has finally brought out its new Ranked Season for Dota 2. The new matchmaking system will run in a six-month season, which gives you more than enough time to grind.

As mentioned during the patch update, there will be no more ranking MMR points. Instead, it’s replaced with medals, and they have names! Starting from Herald and going all the way to Divine, each medal comes with its own five-star ranking. In order to achieve the next medal, you will have to grind until you get five stars in order to continue up the ladder.

What’s great is that you can never lose a medal once you’ve earned it, unlike MMR points, which will decrease with every loss.

With MMR points abolished, this makes ranked matches a whole lot better. Back then, Solo and Party MMR points were separated but this time, both Solo and Party ranked games will be taken into consideration. Your skill in ranked games will evaluate and determine when your medal gets upgraded, with Solo ranked games having a much heavier emphasis.

To hit Ancient and Divine, Dota 2 will only take your Solo ranked games into consideration.

Happy grinding!
