DJI Phantom 4 quadcopter camera drone will soon be made available for Malaysian drone aficionados and professional users. Currently used by event organisors, authorities, and field experts in the country, drones are finding their ever use-fullness in both commercial and as hobbies.

Local tech distribution giant, ECS Astar Sdn Bhd has partnered with DJI to start retailing the Phantom 4 quadcopter camera drone, this will be the first foray for a drone maker to officially take footing in our shores. This will open up many possibilities for the technology, often seen as a game changer on its versatility and mobility for taking amazing aerial videos for many organisation and individuals. But before you stand in queue at the ECS authorised resellers for a unit, there are certain guideline to follow when flying a drone or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in Malaysia as stipulated by Department of Civil Aviation.

Drone use is allowed in Malaysia, but there are several Malaysia drone laws that need to be followed when flying in the country. Operators must ensure that they follow the following laws when flying in Malaysia,

• You cannot fly higher than 400 feet (122 meters)
• You cannot fly near people not associated with flying the drone or over crowds
• You must fly during daylight hours and only fly in good weather conditions
• Have insurance
• Do not fly near airbases
• Do not attempt to fly over country borders
• If you are flying a drone that weighs more than 20kg you must hold a private pilots licence and obtain a permit for every flight you intend to operate.
