Is that a smile on Reed Hasting’s face?

Disney+ launched in the US, Canada and Holland today but in spite of the company taking measures to prevent any sort of hiccups from occurring during launch, a number of errors have been reportedly plaguing its users. In incidents that have happened across all 3 countries, users are reporting a plethora of issues ranging from difficulties logging in, an inability to stream and app failures to shows and movies disappearing from the library entirely.

Disney actually anticipated something like this would happen and as such, took precautions by testing the the platform for any high-pressure streaming traffic issues during The Netherlands launch a couple of weeks ago. You know what they say, everything that can go wrong, will go wrong and even though Disney+ is going through some hiccups now, this is more likely to be nothing but a body shot for the house of mouse.

In somewhat unrelated news, Apple TV+’s head of scripted and unscripted shows, Kim Rozenfeld, has left the company. In a rather strange move seeing as the platform is a mere 2 weeks into it’s launch, Apple TV is undergoing what looks like a management restructure, with Rozenfield stepping down to participate in a first-look production deal with Apple TV+ for his company, Half Full Productions. Fun fact- Rozenfeld was actually one of the first people reeled into Apple 2 years ago by fellow former Sony Pictures TV executives Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht, who are currently leading the tech giant’s programming strategy.

No idea yet as to what this shift in direction means for Apple TV+ but i’m certain that Netflix execs are looking at all of this with a wry smile on their faces.
