Dell EMC officially launches its new member of its Virtual Edge Platform products. It is the first-to-market software-defined wide area network solution with the new Intel Xeon® D-2100 processor under the hood.

Dell EMC hopes that the new virtualised solution will enhance or displace costly fixed-function access hardware. They also seek to hasten the digital transformation by connecting the enterprise edge to the cloud via universal Customer Premise Equipment (uCPE).
The new product in Dell EMC’s Virtual Edge Platform line up is the Dell EMC VEP4600. It can provide next-generation access to the network through a software-defined wide area network solution. By enhancing WAN operations and economics, service providers and enterprise customers using the VEP4600 can increase growth, strengthen competitive differentiation as well as improve the end-user experience.
Powering the VEP 4600 is the Intel Xeon D-2100. It performs better, has higher power and better form factor than other similar products; this gives it better performance-per-watt for SD-WAN and uCPE. The Xeon D-2100 delivers more than 1.5x faster CPU performance, up to 2x improvement in packet processing, 2x memory bandwidth as well as up to 4x memory capacity.
