They’re also having lots of sex and gaming too.
There can be no denying that the Covid-19 pandemic has changed our lives in more ways than one. Other than the massive change to our daily day to day routine, it’s also led to a shift in our priorities and as such, our buying habits as well. With everyone being at home, everyone seems to be looking for ways to pass time and I guess it should come as no surprise that our online purchases reflect that.
e-commerce aggregator iPrice Malaysia has recently revealed some data on the search activities of Malaysian online shoppers, and the results are hardly surprising given the fact that everyone is stuck at home.
It turns out that Malaysians have been searching rather heavily for things such as exercise equipment, sensual toys, shaving supplies and baking appliances, which has led to unprecedented levels of demand for these items.
According to iPrice Malaysia, the research was conducted by analysing the online search behaviour of almost one million visitors on the marketplace between March 18 (when the MCO was first enforced) to April 17.
The results showed that home appliances like bread makers, stand mixers, air fryers and ovens saw an increase in searches by 7587, 3048, 2029 and 1058 percent respectively.
Keeping fit seems to be a priority among Malaysians as well, with exercise equipment including skipping ropes and yoga mats climbing up the charts to be one of the most searched items during the MCO.
Staying at home can get quite lonely, especially if you live alone. Vibrators have seen an increase of 347 percent since the MCO has been implemented. Those fortunate enough to be in lockdown with their partners have also contributed to a 79 percent increase in fertility test kits and a 61 percent increase in condoms.
Seeing as heading over to the salon or barbershop for a trim is out of the picture, supplies such as shavers, trimmers and clippers have also seen an increase in searches. This explains the hilarious videos you see online of people cutting their own hair.
Other than that, electronic products such as tablets and laptops as well as gaming products such as the Nintendo Switch, Animal Crossing and board games have also dominated the search engines, with Animal Crossing seeing a whopping 17,427 percent rise in searches.
