CES 2018: Tyre-maker Continental Rolls into Connected Car Space

Connected cars which basically places vehicles in the ambit of internet which in turn allows technology company’s to come with valuable solutions that can make a driving experience more pleasurable and safe. Every day there is innovation concepts being introduced for the cars of the future, Continental the makers of tires has concieved a conceptual web technology that offers relevant on useful information to the drivers.

Showcasing the new concept at CES 2018 Las Vegas, Continental is set to debut the Holistic Connectivity Experience demonstration car, by harnessing web technologies the company is aiming to provide consumers relevant and up to date information including traffic, road and weather conditions all on the dashboard screen.

Dr. Karsten Michels, Head of Systems & Technology in the Interior division at Continental said “Our solution helps vehicle manufacturers transform the driving experience, ensuring delivery of dynamic, context based services. This makes vehicle functions more intelligent and relevant allowing service providers to explore new value streams and tap into innovative business models.”

 

The digital console allows users to interact with a range of services presented in a timeline, apart from the items listed earlier the smart system can also detect for instance an under-inflated tire by subscribing to a maintenance service provider who has access to the vehicle’s information, it can then immediately contact the user and recommend a visit to the nearest garage.

With voice command and response, the system operates on popular web technologies (HTML5, NodeJS and Chromium based web browser) which makes it accessible for vehicle manufacturers to develop enhancements or customise to their console.
