The consortium of telecommunication representing various regions of the world from South East Asia Middle East and Western Europe have completed a 20,000 kilometre submarine cable connecting the three continents for the first time.

Comprising operators across 18 countries with Telekom Malaysia, and Malaysia being one of the landing countries, the submarine cable system SEAMEWE-5 is expected to boost TM’s growth in the international bandwidth, IP Transit, IPVPN, interconnection and backhaul services.  It is designed with a capacity of 24 Terabits per second on 3-fibre pairs, fully capable of accommodating the future demand of data from other bandwidth-intensive applications such as enterprise data exchange, internet TV and online gaming.

Cable’s advanced 100Gbps technology is anticipated to meet the quadrupling of bandwidth demand between Europe and Asia, providing the lowest latency and further enhancing the network diversity and resilience to the heavily loaded Asia to Europe route.The cable system, which has already started carrying traffic, is said to provide seamless end to end connectivity with the capability of originating or terminating traffic from the PoPs in Singapore and Europe.
