Che Nom hits 1 Million Subscribers on YouTube!

Food unites people. It’s hard for an argument or fight to happen when it involves food in the context, except for a few friendly tantrums between Malaysia and the neighbouring countries. Food also is a content that is easy to make and raise your numbers on YouTube.

This occurrence is what happened to our local food blogger, Norma Bakar or widely known as Che Nom. She is known for her Malay recipes which she shared on YouTube and are easy to follow.

Che Nom, who was a retired engineer announced the achievement happily on Twitter last week. With that being said, she will be receiving The YouTube Gold Play Button. The Gold Play Button is granted to any YouTube account that reached 1 million subscribers.

Che Nom started her YouTube journey after she retired from a telecommunications company in 2012. Her interest was supported by her husband who is very devoted by helping her to shoot the cooking videos. She is also dubbed as an “online mum to anyone who wants to learn how to cook on YouTube”.

In July 2019, she posted a recipe of Butter Chicken which earned her RM7,762.

At 3.05 pm on Twitter last thursday, 3 hours after she called fans to subscribe to her channel when she was short of 2,000 followers to meet the target, the YouTuber revealed she had reached the one-million mark on Twitter.

Some of her most-viewed recipes include ayam masak merah (3.9 million views), tips on making the perfect chicken rice (3.2 million views) and No-Bake Oreo Cheesecake (2.9 million views).

Malaysians love food so much that we have made few names famous because of it. Last year, we saw Sugu Pavithra who made herself recognised with the same method of producing cooking local dishes.

Then we have a Malay guy, Khairulaming that does a short one-minute recipe video on Instagram that also gained him much popularity to do his own sambal business, which sold out in less than 30 seconds on Shopee.

This is enough proof that with a correct platform and vast knowledge of a particular field, one can simply be successful and even make money out of it. We will see many vloggers to show us different things we never know of, thanks to platforms such as YouTube.
