I may not have a gaming console but I am a fan of the Call of Duty game franchise and I always watch my favourite gamers play them on their YouTube channels.
It’s been reported that Activision wants to develop a new flagship Call of Duty campaign, and its name has just been revealed as Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War.
Call of Duty just released the official teaser on their YouTube channel which you can watch below but it does leave fans with more questions than answers; what does the game look like? is it next-gen?
But it promises that the game will be “inspired by actual events,” and features a real KGB defector speech to help illustrate its point.
According to snippets of text that flash during the teaser video, players may play or interact with an alleged Soviet spy codenamed “Perseus” whose goal was to “subvert the U.S. to ensure Soviet dominance in the arms race.” The real-life CIA has at least one article about a “Perseus” as well, who was supposedly among the spies that stole US nuclear secrets from the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos. That part would have happened during World War II, though.
Not much is know about the game other than it will be officially unveiled on August 26 and what is already written in the YouTube video description. That’s all we got for now. Activision has also promised that Warzone will be tied to future games in the Call of Duty series.
The game will be developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, each of which had previously tweeted that they had worked with each other, and Raven specifically said it was developing “Call of Duty this year” — suggesting that Cold War could ship before the year ends. For now, let’s enjoy the teaser.
