In the wake of Black Panther Star Chadwick Boseman’s untimely death, his final tweet on the platform has now become the most liked tweet ever. The tweet in question wasn’t actually posted by the man himself but by his family and it’s the tweet that informed the Twitterverse of the talented actor’s passing.
The obituary post has thus far garnered over 3.1 million retweets and 7.5 million likes as of the 1st of September. The record is a little bittersweet this time around given that the previous holders for most liked tweet all achieved the title with more positive posts. Other holders of the record include the likes BTS, Ariana Grande and Barack Obama.
Boseman, who’s four year battle with colon cancer was revealed after his death, passed away on August 28th. The news of his passing shocked the world, with many celebrities and political leaders expressing grief and sadness. It’s arguable Boseman’s role as King T’challa in Black Panther did more for people of colour in America than any politician has, and Boseman knew very well the responsibility that came with the role.
Boseman also starred in other projects, with his last two being Da 5 Bloods on Netflix and the upcoming Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, the latter of which has just had its virtual preview event delayed in the wake of his death. The most liked tweet record may not mean much, but it just goes to show the impact that Boseman has had on his peers, his community and the world.
