A few months ago, we are honoured to receive the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i to review! We even did an unboxing and first impression video of the 2-in-1 laptop which you can watch below:
Now let’s get into the review itself
Design
The Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i is a 2-in-1 laptop, which basically means it works as both laptop and tablet. It comes with detachable bluetooth keyboard. It has an integrated kickstand on the back which is made of metal and can be opened very wide.
Without the keyboard, it weighs around 800g and with the keyboard, it weighs around 1.15kg. Since this is a laptop meant for on the go kind of work, it does feel very light and easy to carry around. The fabric on the underside of the keyboard looks unique compared to other laptops.
The keyboard feels nice to press, response well and the size is just convenient for those who prefer normal size laptop keyboards.
Display and Touchscreen
Since this is a 2-in-1 laptop, once you detach the keyboard, the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i works as a tablet. It has a 14.4 inches screen with 1920 x 1080 resolution and I love the Full HD quality on this thing. I was able to enjoy watching YouTube videos on the laptop as well as Netflix.
The touchscreen works just as good as well. I didn’t need to press harder for it to respond. It works just as good as when you type on a smartphone. There was little to no delay when you want to open files and apps.
Camera
To my surprise, the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i comes with 2 cameras; 1 at the front and 1 at the back. It took me a while to register that this is a 2-in-1 laptop so obviously, it needs to have another camera for its tablet function.
In terms of quality, the camera comes at 720p and I’d say the quality is pretty decent. It’s good enough for you to be able to do video calls and take some fun photos on it. The camera also functions as one of the security features because the laptop has facial recognition.
I’m quite impressed with the facial recognition as it was able to unlock the laptop as soon as it saw my face. Along with the facial recognition, another thing that the laptop can do is that it can notify you when someone is behind you when the camera detects another face it doesn’t recognise which is great.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection
For as long as I had it, the bluetooth connection seems to work just fine. I had no problems connecting my devices such as my phone or headphones to the Yoga Duet 7i as well as the detachable keyboard.
When it comes to Wi-Fi connection, the Yoga Duet 7i is able to connect to the Wi-fi faster than the standard Wi-fi thanks to its Intel Wi-fi 6. It hasn’t failed me. It connected to the Wi-fi just as fine and I was even able to do my work on here.
Battery
Unfortunately, I didn’t get to test out the fast charging capabilities on the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i as I usually charge it overnight but when I use it during the day at work, it did lasted me the whole day on normal use. I use mostly Words to do my work which I’m sure most people do especially students and it lasted me for as long as I needed to do use it.
Gaming
There’s no harm in testing out gaming features on the laptop. As a on the go, work from home and portable laptop, the Lenovo Yoga Duet 7i does a very good job at doing that but unfortunately, if you are looking for a laptop that is also good enough for gaming, this may not be it. I downloaded Genshin Impact on this thing as well as Minecraft and it doesn’t perform well.
This laptop is great for people who are working, travelling or studying but when it comes to gaming, you might want to stick to mobile gaming.
Entertainment and Creative Project
Even though it may not be the best laptop to game on, this laptop can still bring you entertainment. With the Full HD screen, you can enjoy watching your favourite TV series and movies on Yoga Duet 7i.
If you’re more into drawing or doing creative work then this laptop can also do the trick as it comes with a stylus pen which for me was very fun to use even though I don’t draw, it responds well, no lagginess and I can even sign a few documents on this thing.
Final Thoughts
Is it the best laptop out there? Hard to say but I will say that if you’re looking for something light, portable, has good storage and good performance then this is the one for you. The price may be a bit pricey at RM4,265.10 but it is a good investment if you’re looking for something you can do work on the go, can function as both laptop and tablet and also gives you good connection.
