The G Pro Lite Will Be the First LG Device to Offer BBM Out-of-the-box
The popular messenger app will now come preinstalled on the LG G Pro Lite for world wide distribution. Off the heels of the recent announcement of the availability of BBM in both android and iOS with over 40 million downloads, the social chanel is set to grow its subscriber base even more rapidly with LG. Applying just what the doctor ordered BlackBerry has dismantled their business model to enable focused attention to each segment and as of now the BBM portion looks really promising.
The LG G Pro Lite is a 5.5″ phablet that should come with an affordable price tag, the android based device is targetted at the mid range segment who are looking to move up to a more sophisticated device without burning a hole in their pockets. We are not quite sure what will be the difference between downloading from the app stores and having it bundled into the device but the bundling agreement with LG Electronics involves both standard and virtual preloading using the LG app manager.(We will publish the full review of the smartphone with BBM as soon as we get our giant palms on a review unit)
According to Kevin Shin VP for Marketing Asia, Middle East and CIS countries for LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company “BBM is widely used throughout the Middle East, Africa and Indonesia where smartphone users tend to engage heavily in social networking,” he goes on to add “The LG G Pro Lite offers an optimized BBM experience with its large, high quality display and embedded Stylus Pen.” “People across the globe are using BBM to connect with each other and the enthusiasm has been phenomenal,” said Andrew Bocking, Executive Vice President for BBM at BlackBerry. “We’re extremely pleased that LG Electronics will help bring their customers a more seamless experience with BBM by preloading the app, starting with the G Pro Lite in key markets.” BBM is a premier mobile communication service that gives customers privacy, control and immediacy as they chat with their contacts – either one-to-one, in multiple chats or as part of a BBM Group. BBM’s Delivered and Read statuses, as well as message-in-progress notices, keep people engaged and active in their conversations.
BBM lets users share files such as photos and voice notes, as well as update their profile and status with ease. Up to 30 people can connect as a BBM Group to chat and share photos, calendars and other files or documents. BBM Channels which is currently only available for BB users is another example of the company’s innovation that allows users to create their own channel with all their favourite interests and share with friends. Think of it as facebook, blinkfeed, instagram and google chat all bundled into one and we are closely following this development.
A unique feature of BBM is that every user has a unique PIN tied to their BlackBerry ID that helps maintains their privacy which allows users to keep their phone number or email address private when they begin chatting with a new or casual contact. Which we personally believe is a great deterrent as most cyber crimes occur with either hackers having access to emails or phone numbers
