We’ve had to wait for quite a while but boy was the wait worth it. The first trailer for the final season of the smashing success that is Attack on Titan is finally here and there’s so much to digest here. The first thing you’ll probably notice is how the animation style has changed, but that was to be expected given that the show has changed animation studios.

MAPPA has replaced WIT Studio for the fourth season and based on the footage above, it looks like they’ve done a pretty good job. On top of the new style of animation, the trailer also showcases new characters, and new worlds as it gives us a glimpse of the team as they explore the world beyond the wall following events of the third season.

The heads of both studios had nothing but praise for each other, with MAPPA president Manabu Otsuka, said that the studio is “enthusiastic about taking over from such a great studio” while the WIT Studio director also praised MAPPA, saying the team is “wonderful” and that they’ve “had many meetings together exchanging information for a long time.”

The anime made debut back in 2013, and has spawned several live-action films based on the manga by  Hajime Isayama, which began serialization in 2009. The final series of Attack on Titan is expected to arrive later this year in September and will be broadcast on NHK-G.
