The streaming service looks set to be family friendly, so don’t expect any adult content..

Video streaming is booming and everyone wants to stick their hands in the jar, just ask Netflix. With that being said, Apple, who are set to launch their very own video streaming service called Apple TV Plus, have not exactly started off as well as they had hoped.

The tech giants have reportedly cancelled one of its first original shows planned for the platform before the service has even launched! According to The Hollywood Reporter, it came down to an issue of creative differences between the showrunners and Apple execs.

The show in question is Bastards and it was conceived as a series revolving around two best friends who served in the Vietnam War together. Their lives take a turn for the worst when they return home and 50 years later, everything changes when the woman they both loved is killed in an accident. With feelings of anger and resentment towards the world, they go on a shooting rampage.

Apparently the showrunners wanted to focus on the darker aspects of this already dark story whereas Apple execs disagreed. They would rather the show be about the story of friendship between the two men, one of whom was supposed to be played by Richard Gere. Apple is more interested in “aspirational programming” and the showrunners vision of the tv series just didn’t fit with that.

If anything, this is an indicator of the direction Apple is taking their Apple TV Plus streaming service in. The company has reportedly planned for the vibe of the platform to be family friendly in order to cater to the mass audience. So if you’re looking to see Game of Thrones-esque TV shows with sex, violence and gore, you should look elsewhere.
