Based on its research of Apple’s processor development, Bloomberg surmised – in one paragraph – that Apple will release three new Macs. All of them, featuring new custom co-processors, should appear in the coming months.

This, of course, is only one part of the conclusion. This development is only one aspect of a larger scope that Apple is creating. The end-goal: become an independent chip-maker and equip all its devices with the processors it manufactures.

It’s a move that has been a long time coming as Cupertino push for incremental releases of new mobile chips. This includes the wireless Apple W2, the AI-based Neural Engine, and custom graphics for its flagship smartphones.

As is, only the Apple Macbook Pro with Touch Bar and iMac Pro sport a co-processor: the Apple T1 and T2 respectively.

With the Apple T1, the Macbook Pro is able to authenticate and secure Touch ID and Apple Pay. As for the Apple T2, it integrates separate components into a singular system with added management capabilities. It also comes with Apple Secure Enclave to provide added protection for the iMac Pro.

The three new Macs will likely sport the Apple T2 co-processor.

There is confirmation that Apple is working on an all-new modular Apple Mac Pro. In due time, the world will know if that or the three new Macs will sport an all Apple processor line-up as well or operate on the co-processor model.
