Apple’s keynote at Brooklyn, New York, ended with a surprise as the company revealed a revamp of its MacBook Air for the first time in eight years.

The new laptop features a 13.3-inch Retina display with slimmer bezels, as well as a shrunk design that’s 17 percent smaller and 10 percent thinner at a weight of 1.24 kg. On the inside, you’ll find an 8th-Gen Intel dual-core i5 processor, up to 16GB of 2,133MHz RAM, and choices of 128GB, 256GB, 512GB or 1.5TB SSD space. As for connectivity, there are Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports and a headphone jack.

A key feature that Apple has added includes its T2 security chips for Touch ID and Siri support. T2 security chips will help protect the device’s encryptions, storage, and fingerprint data. Apple also states that the chip will prevent hackers from eavesdropping on your microphone. The T2 also comes with an SSD controller that provides automatic encryption.

MacBook Air also features a third-generation Apple-designed keyboard, designed around precise and responsive typing. Each key is individually backlit with low-power LEDs. Furthermore, the new MacBook Air also includes a Force Touch trackpad, which delivers pressure-sensing capabilities and haptic feedback.

Another update to the MacBook Air includes advancements in its sound technology and speakers. According to Apple, the speakers on this laptop are 25 percent louder with two times more bass than the previous generation.

The MacBook Air will set you back $1,199 (RM5,015) and comes in the colours gold, silver, and space gray. Interestingly, Apple announced that the laptop will be going on sale today. However, no details were revealed as to when this will launch in Malaysia.
