Consumers outside of the US who had a MacBook left in their cart were given a surprise when they saw a sudden price increase on it.

Apparently, Apple had quietly increased the price of build-to-order Macs. While MacBooks are priced the same with their standard configuration, consumers who seek to customize it will find they will be paying for more than what they had in mind.

The price was increased by around 10%. Some consumers in the UK have noted the difference, and configurations such as processor, memory, and graphics have either been increased £10 or £20 each.

It’s not known how many other countries are affected by this price hike, but it’s mentioned that Canada, Europe, Australia, and “many parts of Asia” will notice the difference.

So, is Malaysia affected? To be completely honest, I don’t know. But one quick visit to the website, and I see this:

I don’t always visit the Apple website, so I can’t say for sure if it has been affected, though I vaguely remember that this has always been the price for the configurations.

Does that mean we’re in the clear? Well, no, not necessarily. We might be affected later, as it depends on how much our exchange range fluctuates, or if supply constraints are worse than it seems.

Why would we have these issues? Simple. COVID-19.
