After almost 3 months of schools being closed, Deputy Education Minister Muslimin Yahaya has said that tomorrow could just be the day the federal government announces the schedule for the reopening of schools throughout the country.

Speaking during his visit to SMK Raja Permaisuri Bainun in Ipoh, Yahaya saif that the matter will be decided when the Education Minister Mohd Radzi Md Jidin, the Health Ministry, and the National Security Council meet this afternoon.

“Today, there is an important meeting on this matter and if a decision is reached at the meeting, maybe we will announce tomorrow,” That being said, he was keen to highlight that this would only be for secondary schools at first, with students sitting for important national examinations being given priority.

“This only involves around 398,446 students nationwide, including 347,177 SPM students, 45,596 STPM students, 2,935 SVM students and STAM 2,738 students,” he added.

Now of course, they wouldn’t reopen schools without having standard operation procedures in place. According to Yahaya, the SOPs have already been issued and were developed after conducting simulations at several schools in Putrajaya and Selangor.

One interesting thing that he pointed out was that there will be a need for more teachers when schools reopen, owning to the fact that classroom sizes will be restricted to maintain social distancing.
