Ammobox Studios Dives Deep With New ‘Depth’ Franchise Revival

Malaysia’s Ammobox Studios is making waves in the global gaming industry after acquiring the Depth IP from New Zealand developer Digital Confectioners, with plans to revitalise the popular underwater multiplayer game for a new generation of players.

Originally released in 2014, Depth lets players take on the role of divers or sharks in tense underwater battles. Its mix of atmospheric visuals, asymmetric gameplay and dedicated fanbase of over 2 million players has made it one of the most distinctive multiplayer titles of its era.

For Ammobox Studios, the acquisition is a big step forward. “We are beyond excited to acquire the Depth IP and continue development. We have something exciting brewing behind the scenes,” said Ammobox Studios chief executive officer Jeremy Choo.

Digital Confectioners managing director James Tan said the team was confident that Ammobox Studios would carry the Depth legacy with care. “They have the energy and focus to take it forward, and we’re confident they’ll treat both the game and its community with the same respect that have defined it from day one,” he said.

Agora Gaming Partners co-founder Pontus Mähler, who facilitated the transaction, said the Depth IP still has tremendous untapped potential. “The market for high-quality shark-themed action games is remarkably underrepresented, and Ammobox’s vision positions them well to expand the franchise for a new generation of players,” he said.

The studio said it is currently evaluating opportunities to enhance gameplay, update the technology, and engage the community in shaping the future of Depth. More details will be revealed in the coming months.
