Today, Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD) launched several high-performance computing solutions aimed at defining the AI computing era. These include the 5th Gen AMD EPYC™ server CPUs, AMD Instinct™ MI325X accelerators, AMD Pensando™ Salina DPUs, AMD Pensando Pollara 400 NICs, and AMD Ryzen™ AI PRO 300 series processors for enterprise AI PCs. This line-up emphasises AMD’s commitment to the expanding AI and data centre markets, with a focus on achieving leadership in performance and energy efficiency.
AMD Chair and CEO Dr. Lisa Su highlighted the growth potential in the AI and data centre sectors, stating, “The data centre and AI represent significant growth opportunities for AMD, and we are building strong momentum for our EPYC and AMD Instinct processors across a growing set of customers.” Su also projected that the data centre AI accelerator market could reach $500 billion by 2028.
The new AMD EPYC 9005 Series processors, built on the “Zen 5” architecture, will deliver up to 192 cores, optimising performance for diverse data centre needs. Alongside, AMD introduced the Instinct MI325X accelerator, designed to support complex AI workloads. AMD also previewed its upcoming Instinct MI350 series, expected in the latter half of 2025.
Expanding its presence in AI infrastructure, AMD shared how cloud providers are leveraging AMD hardware for scalable AI deployments. Since launching in December 2023, the MI300X accelerators have been adopted by key players like OpenAI for ChatGPT, Meta for Llama, and various models on the Hugging Face platform. Companies such as Google and Oracle announced plans to integrate EPYC CPUs and Instinct accelerators into their systems to enhance performance and energy efficiency.
Moreover, AMD announced enhancements to the ROCm open-source AI software stack, which now supports over a million AI models. Industry partners including Dell, HPE, Lenovo, and Supermicro are set to expand their AMD EPYC-powered offerings to modernise data centres for AI-focused tasks.
In addition to server-side advancements, AMD launched the Ryzen AI PRO 300 Series processors, designed for enterprise PCs. These processors bring AI-driven features to the business sector with enhanced productivity, security, and battery life. Partnering with Microsoft, AMD’s AI PRO processors will support Windows 11 Copilot+, with HP and Lenovo expected to release over 100 platforms powered by Ryzen AI PRO by 2025.
With these product launches, AMD reinforces its leadership in AI and data centre computing, pushing forward on a range of innovative solutions designed to meet the demands of today’s AI-driven world.
