MCMC has come out publicly stating the hundreds of Pusat Internet or Internet Centre scattered throughout the country will not be shut down. This comes after one of the operators claimed that the initiatives under the Universal Service Provision to provide access to internet for the rural, will all be closed.

Nusuara Technologies the company behind the allegation, was founded in 2002, and headed by former Celcom Ceo Dato Ramli Abbas, the company manages and operates these centers after it expanded its business into broadband connectivity. Together with Celcom, the company designs, builds and manages Pusat Internet 1 Malaysia in various parts of rural Malaysia. Nusuara currently manages 37 sites in the rural areas of Peninsula Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak according to its website profile. In total there are currently 870 Pusat Internet in operation all over the country providing facilities like high speed Internet as well as ICT and e-commerce courses and training. These Internet centres are meant to increase the skillsets of the local community and elevate their economic status with various initiatives including the eRezeki program by MDEC.

MCMC has called the allegations that these centres will be shut down as an irresponsible act and , confirms that Pusat Internet all over the country will not be closed and that the allegations are completely baseless. Nusuara Technologies has been asked to provide justification and further clarification on their statement.
