Looks like Amazon is kicking Siri to the curbs, coming in with Alexa on iPhones.

Amazon announced that Alexa will be available and integrated with the Amazon Shopping app for iOS. While Alexa was well known to be a great helper in the home when living in Echo, looks like Alexa is ready to leave home and go mobile.

Of course, Siri still has a winning advantage, since technically iPhone is still home turf and can be activated via voice controls. Alexa’s usage is limited to within the app itself, relying on the users pressing the microphone button.

Alexa is integrated with the Amazon app, so you can do all the usual shopping and tracking on the app with voice commands. Alexa also allows for commands to help listen to music or stream books on Kindle. Of course the usual trivia, jokes, search, news, traffic and weather updates are available as well – then again you have Siri for that.

What Siri can’t do though, is control smart home devices. Alexa can – and now right from your phone. While it is limited to Alexa enabled devices, it’s still much more handy than the clunky Echo, which is best suited for home use only.
