AirAsia Sponsors Alibaba Owned eSport Tournament

Now everybody wants to eSport! Fastest growing sports since Frisbee, eSports or electronic video gaming has become the biggest industry in entertaintment with 100’s of millions of players taking into the sport.

Countless number of eSport tournaments are being held across the planet offering thousands to miliions in prize money, even in Malaysia the largest pool prize surpasses RM1 million during the ESL One Dota tournament. The populariryt of events such as these have lured big brands to come on board and reach out to the gaming community who are mostly in the younger age category. AirAsia the latest Malaysian brand to jump on the bandwagon having since signing two eSports team has now become the official airline partner for the World Electronic Sports Games (WESG) in Asean, an esports championship tournament by Alisports, the sports branch of Alibaba Group.

After a rocky start, WESG was finally held last year with US$5.5 million prize pool in China with 4 million players particiating and will now be organised across various cities for its second installment. The Asean leg will see psonsors like AirAsia hav its brand intergrated across the digital platforms and will have opportunity to offer ancillary products and services at the events including online store and ticketing agents on ground.

The WESG Asean online registration in each country will commence from 1 June to 31 July 2018. These 10 countries will run its own online tournaments followed by national finals (LAN) from 1 August to 30 September. The Asean Regional Grand Finals will be held in November 2018 and the International Grand Finals will be held in March 2019. Participants may register at sea.wesg.com/registration
