Work is under way for next years Winter Olympic in Korea where the cold harsh environment will be turned into a competitive one when the worlds best sportsman and woman gather to compete in the winter sports. But this time there is another competitive sport which will competed in a more comfy environment in fact they could even be from the couch, as athletes pit against each other armed with mouse and keyboards.

Gamers, Intel has announced plans to bring eSports to PyeongChang ahead of next February’s Olympic Winter Games as an extension of its worldwide partnership of the sport. The Intel Extreme Masters tournament featuring Blizzards Starcraft II and a separate exhibition featuring Ubisoft’s action-sports title Steep Road To Olympics the official licensed game will be showcased during the Winter Games.

The tournament will be open to any player, at any level via global online qualifiers, which will take place in November. A live qualifier event will also take place in Beijing in December between the top two qualifiers from China, with the winner moving on to compete against the rest of the field in PyeongChang in the lead up to the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. For those who cant make it to Korea, Intel will be broadcasting the events on popular streaming channels.
