This year is going to soo…virtual reality oriented, Samsung’s Gear VR is already on the shelves and with many others who made their wares available last year and the year before, will make 2016 the year to go commercial. Early announcer for the year is HTC, during CES, chief officer Cher Wang stated that the HTC Vive will be made available for pre-order starting this February 29th.

The company has been showcasing its virtual reality headset since last year at road shows across America and Europe, the way HTC’s Vive works is somewhat different than Oculus’s Rift which does not require a large room or a powerful PC.

A collaboration with Valve, the Vive will be at the forefront with gaming, but unlike the other system the completely immersive Vive can only be used within confined space with additional accessories which includes a powerful PC. On the head set a front facing camera maps out the room and also allow the software to identify any moving or static objects in a room. It’s part of the Chaperone safety system to prevent and warn users of hitting an obstacle or wall which requires images displayed at 90 frames per second while standard laptops run at around 30fps. However, coincidentally VR PCs will also more commercially available this year, rendering owning a HTC Vive considerable.
