For an entry-level 5G capable artificial intelligence (AI) smartphone, the realme 14x is impressive. The upgraded Dimensity 6300 5G processor chipset delivers performance that punches way above its price range. Boasting a 420,000+ AnTuTu score, it is capable to handle multitasking and gaming with ease without any overheating or lag issue.
Durability And Appearance
At first glance, the matte, transparent light-and-shadow texture on the back panel gave off a subtle premium vibe, making it look more expensive than it is.
Though the build quality of the realme 14x isn’t just all talk as its SGS-certified is able to withstand drops, an assurance for clumsy users like me.
While it’s not designed for underwater adventures, the IP64 Dust and Water Resistance is a highly appreciated feature for an entry-level 5G device, making it more durable against the occasional accidental spill and dust exposure. The slim, ergonomic body with rounder corners made the device exceptionally comfortable to hold for long periods of time.
Display And Camera
The realme 14x features a 6.67-inch display rocking a 120HZ Eye Comforting refresh rate though it doesn’t reach flagship brightness levels, it delivers smooth scrolling and vivid visuals with beautiful viewing angles.
The realme UI is fairly basic to say the least, it’s interactively as similar to all the other android UIs out there.
Regarding the camera, the realme 14x boasts a 50MP AI camera that performs well in good lighting conditions, producing detailed and vibrant shots enhanced by AI optimisations. However, it struggles to maintain quality in low-light conditions, resulting in less sharp and noisier images.
That said, the AI Clear Face feature is impressive as it uses AI algorithms to restore clarity to blurry portraits, enhancing details and bringing out vibrant, lifelike textures. This is particularly useful for impromptu moments where motion might otherwise ruin the shot.

Battery And Audio
I have been using the realme 14x as a replacement for my personal phone for the day, and I must say, the 5,000mAh battery performed exceptionally well. It easily met my needs throughout the day with minimal battery drainage, whether for work, light gaming sessions, or watching my favorite Netflix series.
Of course, when it was time to charge, the 15W fast charging felt slightly underwhelming compared to other phone brands that offer higher fast charging within the same price range.
The built-in speakers are alright, decent audio through casual video playback and phone calls, although the 300% Ultra Volume Mode to me personally feels like a game-changer for calls and videos in noisy environments.
AI Integration
I’ve got to say, the “Circle to search” feature was super interesting to me, enabling me to easily find out what’s being on my screen by just holding down my home button and circle the thing that I like to know more about. This is a really fun tool for curious users like me instead of having to search for it descriptively on my browser.
Additionally, the realme 14x also has Google Gemini which to me, significantly enhances the phone by bringing advanced AI capabilities to the device, making it smarter and more user-friendly.
The integration of Google Gemini pushes the boundaries of what an entry-level 5G phone can do. Though it’s particularly beneficial for tech-savvy users who just adore having AI at their fingertips.

realme 14x Unique Points
The Dimensity 6300 5G Processor is undeniably the strongest feature on this phone. For a phone in this price range, it’s honestly hard to ask for better performance. It punches well above its weight. I also found the matte, transparent back design to be a pleasant surprise. Super subtle yet premium, giving off the kind of vibe you’d expect from a mid-range (which I initially thought it was) phone.
The AI clear face feature also deserves a special mention. I didn’t expect much at first, but it thoroughly amazed me with how well it enhanced my blurry photo. Its these kinds of small yet meaningful features that made the realme 14x the ideal entry level 5G smartphone to consider.
Where it could be better
With all that said, there are some aspects that left me wanting more each time. The 50MP AI Camera while excellent in good lighting, really struggles in low light. The image turns out grainy and lacks the sharpness you’d typically expect, especially when certain brands are stepping up their game in this area.
The 15W fast charging is another area where the realme 14x just falls short. Other models in the same price range boast 25W or even 45W charging making the slower speed feel dated. Lastly, I couldn’t help but notice that some competing phones offer 6000mAh batteries and IP69 ratings which make them more appealing for those who prioritise longevity and durability.
Verdict
After spending some time with the realme 14x, I can confidently say this phone offers a lot for its pricing, especially for an entry-level 5G AI device.
It truly impressed me specifically in areas like performance and design, but it does leave some room for improvement.
As a techie, I appreciate its balance of innovation and practicality, but I can’t help but compare it to other models in the same category. Then again, you’ve got to remember that this is, for an entry level smartphone, enough.
Should you get it?
If you’re someone who prioritises battery life, fast charging or superior durability, you might find better options in the same price range.
For me, the realme 14x feels like a step in the right direction for entry-level smartphones. It’s smart, stylish and capable. Everything you’d want from a phone at this price. Still, I hope realme takes the next step and addresses its shortcomings in future iterations, though this is a big step up from the realme 12x. Until then, the realme 14x remains a solid choice for most users, but not without a few compromises.
