The esports scene in Malaysia saw an energetic weekend as Mitsui Outlet Park KLIA Sepang (MOP KLIA), in partnership with Kohai, Malaysia’s leading esports super app, attracted thousands of gaming enthusiasts for its first-ever ‘Immortal Legends’ Tournament, held on 12 and 13 October 2024.
The tournament showcased two popular mobile games, Mobile Legends Bang Bang and PUBG Mobile, with 64 teams competing over three weeks. The semi-finals and finals, held at MOP KLIA, saw the top 16 teams battle for a share of the RM10,000 prize pool. Team Rocket claimed victory in Mobile Legends, while Team TODAK emerged as the champions in PUBG Mobile.
According to TJ Cheah, Deputy Managing Director of MFMA Development Sdn. Bhd., the event was a vibrant platform for emerging esports talent. “This collaboration has allowed us to foster a platform where young, emerging talents of all backgrounds could showcase their skills while creating a lively and engaging atmosphere for all visitors,” he said. Cheah also expressed interest in future events that would continue to enhance the mall’s dynamic environment.
The event featured a variety of activities, from interactive gaming stations where casual visitors could try out new updates for PUBG Mobile and Mobile Legends to opportunities for fans to meet professional players from teams like HomeBois and Selangor Red Giants. Attendees also enjoyed the chance to compete for special giveaways alongside esports personalities such as Gojes from Selangor Red Giants and participate in Kohai Sembang LIVE sessions with influencers like Daddyhood and Boss Simon.
Adding a special touch to the event was the debut of the Mobile Legends: Southeast Asia Cup (MSC) Trophy, which drew enthusiastic fans eager to capture photos with the renowned prize. In addition to the esports excitement, MOP KLIA offered exclusive promotions and giveaways throughout the weekend, making it a memorable experience for both gamers and shoppers.
Cheah highlighted MOP KLIA’s accessibility and infrastructure as ideal for large-scale events. Located just eight minutes from KLIA and KLIA2 and 45 minutes from the city centre, the mall offers convenient access through major highways and ample public transportation, making it a prime venue for hosting major esports tournaments.
With this successful tournament, MOP KLIA plans to continue engaging the esports community, solidifying its role as a hub for both competitive gaming and shopping.
