Cybersecurity Awareness: Collaboration Between Kaspersky, Universiti Malaya (UM)

Kaspersky, a leading global cybersecurity company, and Universiti Malaya (UM) have recently solidified their collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at bolstering cybersecurity expertise and knowledge in Malaysia. 

The strategic partnership between the two entities seeks to enhance educational initiatives and activities focused on cultivating cybersecurity awareness and talent within the country.

Universiti Malaya, recognized as the top-ranking university in Malaysia according to the Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings 2024, has also recently introduced its Masters of Cyber Security program, further emphasizing its commitment to cybersecurity education.

Acknowledging the pressing need for cybersecurity professionals in Malaysia, Kaspersky’s Managing Director for Asia Pacific, Adrian Hia, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasizing the increasing sophistication of cyber threats and the necessity for well-trained local experts to defend Malaysia’s rapidly evolving digital economy.

Vice-Chancellor of UM, Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Mohd Hamdi Abd. Shukor emphasised the importance of cybersecurity in today’s digital landscape, stressing the crucial role of cybersecurity professionals in safeguarding against cyber threats. 

He expressed confidence in the UM-Kaspersky partnership’s potential to shape future cybersecurity leaders, highlighting the profession’s allure and significance in Malaysia.
